So am I the only one that thought Castlevania was a bit ‘meh’?
It just really didn’t do anything for me and I have no idea why it demands such a ridiculous price when there seems to be 7 million copies in existence.

I love all the castlevania’s on the GBA and SOTN was awesome, it’s the same old story though. Popularity drives up prices although PAL copies do seem to be harder to come by than their NTSC counter parts. I still aim to get the collectors edition, but I don’t have 200 smackers :S

I played the GBA Castlevania’s and though they were very nice, makes me want to play the PS1 version also.
Ofcourse, after having dropped 100+ euro on LE, it just sits on the shelf, and I play the Nintendo DS Castlevania games instead
Castlevania (and LE) are both completely overpriced, but hey, that’s “The market” for you.
Also, there are people out there that just collect Castlevania, so it’s not just the PS1 collectors that want ‘em.

For a 2D platformer this game surely is a very sought after title and a hot collectible. Really have to try that one soon.

Castlevania is probably my most expensive 2nd hand game. I managed to get some expensive games in my country, second hand stores, for a really bargain price. But this one was one of the few cases of temporary insanity on ebay. I also think there is a little too much hype about Castlevania, but considering its increasing popularity it kinda makes sense that this game can actually be so expensive. I still enjoy the castlevania games, they are great platformers and I to believe they have the popularity they deserve. It is a shame that the latest 3d adventures are not as good as the 2d scrollers. So, basically, if you are looking for a good castlevania game, the ps1 SotN is probable one of the best you can find around. Despite the price, I think it was worth purchasing.

How does Castlevania: SOTN compare to Strider which I also rate as a pretty uncommon game???

Actually I have a brand new copy of Strider for the ps1 that I bought really cheap from a videogame store a couple of years ago (old stock clearance I guess) but I never got to play it. I never thought of it as uncommon though. I cannot really compare the two games now since I only played Castlevania, I’m sorry.

What I don’t understand is why the limited edition version is more expensive than the standard edition. I found it harder to find the standard edition than I did the limited edition!!!
But now I have 2 standards and an incomplete limited so I have to start looking again.

I actually noticed the same. The regular editions are not as rare if you search other countries besides UK, but it certainly seems harder to find than the collector’s edition. Anyway, this game alone is hard to get so people just go for the collector’s edition. If you don’t have any you usually prefer the best or the cheaper. Most people prefer the best so the price rises.
