Phoenixgames lifted the curtain to an inquiry I made about the release of a specific game.
Dear xxxxxxx,
We launched this game, but uptil now no one has ordered it, and as the minimum quantity to order at Sony is 1005 units, I don’t see this title to be ordered soon.
Kind regards,
xxxx
So, there you have it - MANY PlayStation 1 PAL games only were released 1005 times all over PAL territory. Think of games by Phoenix, Midas and many late releases from 2002 up.

Which games were released in 1005 copies?

I contacted Phoenixgames of a possible release of “Kids Playground” - you see the response above.
I frankly don’t know which games were actually released in such small numbers but with a little guessing I would say all of the “Cartoon/Paint Dumb Pics/Puzzle” children releases. Also the last releases like “7 Shoot Games”, “Schnappi” surely fall in this category.
Some others come to mind “Dora the Explorer”, “Blue’s Clues” the two “Cindy” games and many, many more.

What about those “Pocket money” releases? the one with a poorly made cartoon, a puzzle and some colouring books?

I meant the ???Cartoon/Paint Dumb Pics/Puzzle??? children releases as “Pocket Value” releases.

Yeah, those games sucked, I got the anastasia release. God that “game” is horrible.
I always find it baffling that games like the FF series and Square/enix releases are so pricey yet are urber common when games that got maybe 1000 units shipped or are a Euro exclussive go for maybe a couple of bucks.
Most of those games (except those Pocket value shit) are pretty good games too.

after Defcon’s “Blue’s Clues” not selling:
I have yet to see the collectors come on board.
I really wonder sometimes if there will more people try to acquire a complete PAL PS1 collection besides 4 to 5 crazy ones.
Speaking of which, NES games begin to become more asked and demanded on Ebay especially complete with manual/box. People that played them as child remember the experience and are now at an age with some money to spend and begin to collect key games. NES was starting 1985/1986 in PAL, PlayStation 1995/1996. Does that mean that in ten years time, demand in PS1 games will be huge? Opinions please.

NES games are up and down. I recently sold 40 or so Loose carts and got almost 300 smackers, the next day I brought 39 loose carts for 100 bucks. The popular games like the Mario series, Punch out, Metroid, taito stuff are all going up, in other words, all the common shit will be high price, where as black unlicensed carts will remain fairly low for some time. Same with PS1, all the common, yet Popular games will go up in price (FF, Resident evil, Crash Bandicoot etc) where as the less common beat’em ups and shumps will still remain low in cost for some time.
Complete NES games vary in price, a complete Mario 3 could reach 30 bucks, yet a complete Smash TV or battle toads may only break 10, it’s not a very stable market in Australia, but it’s on the rise, in 10 years I bet the PS1 will be like 30 bucks a game in second hand shops

Hmm, have a box of 100-ish spare NES games lying around here
My opinion regarding PS1. Yes, I feel it will be the next Atari 2600 or NES, but I’m not sure if will be of the same magnitude. Simply because there’s so much to collect for these days. And, indeed, not many people are crazy enough to try and get a complete collection of 1500+ games, and instead opt for games they played themselves, ‘good’ games, known rarities (”RPG!!1one”), etc.
So prices for good -common- games might stay higher for a bit, only the real die-hard collectors will want the rare unplayable titles.
(And PS2 has an ever bigger library?)

I try and pick up PS2 games if they’re really cheap, if I really want to play them, or if I feel it’ll be a nice thing to have in a couple years. Last thing I heard, some time ago, was ‘2800 games’. Is that SLES codes or games?! Anyone have a decent PAL list (other than the DP one, I don’t like how DP lists its dbases)

ok, goin’ PS2 off topic here
I began doing the DP PS2 PAL guide but gave it to someone else because I don’t wanna collect these too. I suspect to have at about 450 games (also the “Alien Hominid” special edition signed with T-shirt ) but 2800 seem a bit too high. I believe the release number being at about 1800 different releases so far with all these cheap crap games coming out all the time.

Ah, yes, 1800 was probably the number playing around in my head. Raymond yokdfa took over, didn’t he? (I’d talk more in PM’s, but I don’t think the forum supports that?)
Ok, ok, forget about that rubbish PS2, and talk about PS1 in ten years

yeah, you guys may be right that there are simply TOO many releases out there for the regular guy to collect ‘em all - but we have a pretty rare collection then that really stands out - we’ll see.
what I don’t get is that there are so few limited editions offered on Ebay (I never see one in the wild) - people seem to like them and don’t resell them.
ok, some of them have regional rarity (like those French exclusives or Spider-Man that seems only got released in Germany) and some were really ‘limited’ but we have some here that just one of us guys has in his collection and haven’t turned up a second time in years!!
