What do you think of the new ebay rules?

This has ben argued to death at certain spots such as the ebay community boards, but I found no single word about this in this forum and I though I could bring it up.

Right now we can’t see who is bidding. We can’t leave negative feedback to buyers. So basically we can even outbid each other without knowing unless we recon the feedback points, yet some auctions from different countries don’t even reveal anything else but the star rating of the bidders. Some time ago I won a demo disc to boynez and I only figured because I saw he won many of the other demos the seller had. This was after the auction ended, when the highest bidder user is revealed. The fact that we can’t leave negative to buyers also means they can screw you. Negative feedback comments like “not my number” or “did not like the colour” are fairly common with newbies. Hell I’ve even seen a buyer asking for combined postage for two items with free postage and the other sellers in the community even said the seller was not being fair. On the other hand, you can leave a negative without retalliation, which sucked too. But I don’t think ebay improved that much. In fact, they solved some problems by creating new ones. Scammers will keep comming as usual, I was even contacted with offers about items I was bidding and losing through another e-mail adress I have.

Personal opinion.

From a buyers point of view, they suck arse. It sucks that I cannot try and stay away from overbidding people I know. Yes the Gentlemens Agreement was already at a shaky stage with both Ataribuff and I wanting the same things all the time but this just ended that agreement without the need for discussion.

I guess it is in someway good for the seller as you now have to bid what you think its worth and not how much you know the other bidder is willing to pay (yes I can work out exactly how much all of you guys are going to bid on an item, I stalk your eBay arses constantly).

Now from the sellers point of view. They suck arse!!!!
People are not bidding on auctions now until the last minute so as not to get shilled. Sniping has gone through the roof, and while I have no problem with sniping, I do hate it when the bids that usually happen over the lifetime of the auction have all but stopped. As for feedback it totally sucks arse, I have a seperate selling account so as not to cross contaminate my feedback should something get nasty in buying or selling. But the fact that I cannot leave a neg if a buyer gives me shit on a sale (like I usually get from people trying to get me to ship to Poland or something and complaining that it costs too much, well tough shite buddy, Paypal insist I send it tracking or I lose my protection, and no I don’t trust you, I don’t fucking know you!!! Tracking alone here costs ??3.70, so add that to postage and yes it does cost nearly ??6 to send the game to you).

So yeah they suck arse, and as you can tell from my language here I could get very heated about this, however I have picked up some great bargains recently and this could be due to these new rules. unfortunatly with the bad sometimes comes the good and trying to balance this out is not going to be easy. We just have to get used to them I guess.

Shill bidding has always been a problem on ebay. It now just became easier for sellers. I know situations where shill bidders were found because their IDs were visible and a simple investigation would lead to that conclusion. Right now that just isn’t possible. Well, at least it has become much harder to find out. Even if you reported a user for shill biding, Ebay would do nothing about that since they also benefit with higher selling taxes. Something that bothers me a little is now I can’t figure what sort of bidders I am dealing with. I usually like to scroll through certain feedback pages where sometimes I find things I did not find or did not even know they existed.

And yes looking at the way you’re writing I can see you’re pretty fired up about this. But I guess it’s just like you said, we must get used to the way ebay is right now. Do we have the chance to leave ebay and let all the good stuff go away? Hell no! :D

Now that I’m going to be listing hundreds of games, it really annoys me that I can’t leave negative for buyers who stitch me up. Has this been disabled totally then? I’m assuming you can neg non-payers - can anyone confirm?

To be honest, I’ll probably be canceling quite a few bids depending on the history of the bidder - any non-payments or unfair feed back within last 12 months and they’re off.

I have to say sniping doesn’t bother me as a seller as long as I get top dollar, but as a buyer it’s fricking annoying.

Anyway, if you want any of the stuff I’m listing you can ask me if one of you guys is already bidding on it (I know Defcon’s, Atari’s, Saturn’s and Bucky’s id - the rest of you can let me know). FYI - Atari’s put a few bids in already!

Yeah i think it sucks, from the point of veiw you cannt see who you are up against & shill bidding.
If someone knows how to copy & paste the info
page that comes up when you click on bidder history
please let me know.
As i dont sell i have to rely on info from other sellers i come in contact with & their answers,
It appears to me that E.BAY doesnt follow its own rules. They encourage fairness yet they seem to make rules that go against this. That been open & transparent.
So im told ebay & paypal are one & the same. That they are pressing for paypal as the only means to pay by.They are becoming a monopoly. There slice of the pie would seem to be vast.eg listing fee, sales fee, charge for sellers withdrawing money which i guess most would leave in account until it was worth drawing out.But who earns the interest in the mean time. The seller or them?
Yes it is fair to charge for a service & these have to be paid for,but i still think it is stacked well in ebays favour.
Prehaps the collective should oppose them & set up our own site for gaming only.Lol

TBH I have got a lot of stuff from Australia and the postage has always been extremely reasonable. The registered thing has been there for a while actually (at least for us in order to get paypal protection).

Your registered post cannot be more expensive than ours. Surely!!!

(Airplane quote) Yes it can, and don’t call me Shirley
